The School of Optometry Engineering is oriented to the important civilian industry and optics industry, and cultivates compound and innovative technical skills talents with comprehensive development of morality, intelligence, physical education, art and labor. In 2019, the four majors, including Ophthalmology Technology, Medical Equipment Application Technology, Product Art Design (Glasses Design), and Ophthalmology Technology (Lens Production Technology) were successfully selected as the high-level college construction unit specialty group of the “High-level Higher Vocational College and Professional Construction Plan with Chinese Characteristics”. Now, there are more than 1,000 students in the school.

In 2017, the major of optometry technology was approved as one of the first batch of “National University Huang Danian teaching team”. At present, there are 3 National Excellent Courses, 2 Provincial-level Excellent Courses, 3 National Excellent Resource Sharing Courses, 1 National Teaching Resource Library and 2 Tianjin Skill Training Kits. Meanwhile, the school successfully completed the development of international teaching standards for national optometry technology, which applied for more than 20 appearance patents, 1 invention patent and 2 software copyrights, and presided over the teaching mode, course construction and training. 3 teaching achievements of the system have won the second prize of National Teaching Achievement Award in 2009, 2014 and 2018, 1 third prize of National Informatization Teaching Competition and 1 third prize of Tianjin International Professional Teaching Competition. In recent five years, the school’s teachers have published more than 40 academic papers, 11 teaching materials and more than 10 vertical research projects.

The school has an on-campus training base with advanced equipment and comprehensive functions; a building area of 3450 square meters, 3278 sets of equipment, worth 21.263 million yuan. The college has built 8 listed laboratories, including the “Optical Vision Training Laboratory”, “Nideck Simulation Glasses Shop”, “Bausch & Lomb Contact Lens Fitting Training Room”, and “SIGM Training Room”. The equipment has reached international advanced level. The school actively carries out international exchanges and cooperation, adheres to the path of internationalization, and has close ties with international organizations such as WCO, IACLE, ICEE, and extensive exchanges with universities in the United States, Japan and other countries to create international vision technology. The professional talent training program has achieved remarkable results in the construction of faculty, school-enterprise cooperation, scientific research and the cultivation of students' practical ability, and has initially formed an open, inclusive, sustainable and dynamic internationalization specialty.
