Historical Evolution              

Tianjin Vocational Institute was founded in 1978, formerly known as the second branch of Nankai University and the chemical engineering branch of Tianjin University. It is one of the earliest institutions to hold higher vocational education in China. The school is one of the 100 National Demonstration Higher Vocational Colleges, one of the 200 National High-Quality Vocational Colleges of the Ministry of Education. It is also a national key construction vocational education teacher training base. In 2019, it was established by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance as a “High-level Tertiary Vocational College with Chinese Characteristics” and a “Grade A Elected Project College”.

Scale of College

Tianjin Vocational Institute has two campuses, covering an land area of more than 1,000,000 square meters. The total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is up to 302 million yuan. The library has nearly 840,000 books and 69 Chinese and English databases. At present, it has 10 sub-schools and 3 teaching departments, covering 16 specialty categories such as Equipment Manufacturing, Electronic Information, Finance and Commerce, etc. It actively explores the construction of vocational education system, and successively established 7 joint undergraduate programs with Tianjin University of Science and Technology, Tianjin University of Commerce, Tianjin University of Technology and Education and Tianjin University of Technology. There are more than 16,000 college and undergraduate students in campus.

Teaching Staff

Tianjin Vocational Institute has strong teaching staff. It has 2 National Excellent Professional Teaching Teams, 1 “Huang Danian” Teachers Team in National Colleges, 1 first batch of National Vocational Education Teachers’ Teaching Innovation Team, 4 experts were awarded special allowance by the State Council, 1 Famous Teacher of National Special Support Program for High-level talents, 1 National Model Teacher, 1 National Excellent Teacher. Among them, there are 1 National Teachers’ Ethics Model, 1 National Skills Master, 3 National Cooking Masters, 2 Outstanding Principals of “Huang Yanpei”, 5 Outstanding Teachers of “Huang Yanpei”, 10 Technical Experts of China. Moreover, it has 1 teacher who broken the World Guinness Record and 1 teacher who has won three gold medals in International Speed Recording Competition.

Education and Teaching

Tianjin Vocational Institute has made great achievements in teaching construction. It has won 2 first prizes and 5 second prizes of National Teaching Achievements, 1 special prize, 9 first prizes and 10 second prizes of Tianjin Municipal Teaching Achievements, 1 special prize, 2 first prizes and 2 second prizes of the Executive Committee; 1 second prize of National Teaching Achievement and 1 special prize of Tianjin Municipal Teaching Achievement; and led the construction of three national vocational education professional teaching resource libraries. It has 14 National Excellent Courses (including 13 National Excellent Resource Sharing Courses); the major of Elderly Services and Management, Cooking Technology and Nutrition, Digital Media Application Technology and Computer Network Technology were selected into the pilot program of Modern Apprenticeship and the pilot program of Enterprise-led Modern Apprenticeship by the Ministry of Education. Also, the institute has been selected as a model professional unit in the fields of Elderly Services, Equipment Manufacturing, Tourism and Catering in National Vocational Colleges; it has 35 key construction majors supported by the Central Finance and Tianjin Municipal Finance, and 4 practical training base construction projects supported by the Central Finance.

Cultivation of Talents

Tianjin Vocational Institute has made great achievements in talent cultivation. In the past three years, students won 1 national first prize and 3third prizes in the "Challenge Cup" and "Rainbow life" competition. Students have won 2 special awards, 4 first prizes, 9 second prizes and 9 third prizes of various municipal competitions in Tianjin. In 2019, the institute won the national gold medal in the 5th “China Internet+ student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition”; students won the "National Brand Sunshine Scholarship" and the "National Sunshine Award" for two consecutive years in Tianjin. Since the 12th Five Year Plan, 4 international competition awards (including 1 first prize), 228 National Competition Awards (including 79 first prizes) and 905 provincial and ministerial Competition Awards (including 190 first prizes) have been won by students in various vocational skills competitions at all levels, including international, national and Tianjin competitions.

Tianjin Vocational Institute has carried out extensive school-enterprise cooperation with major enterprises to improve the quality of employment through multiple ways. It has established school-enterprise depth integration with nearly 100 domestic large and medium-sized enterprises, such as Maritime Aviation Technology, Beijing Railway Administration, Tianjin Rail Transit group, Volkswagen Automatic Transmission (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., Haier Group, Marriott Group, China Resources Group, Airbus General Assembly Tianjin Co., Ltd, etc. During these years, more and more graduates join the world's top 500 enterprises.

Further Education

Our students can take part in the Higher Vocational College Entrance Examination which held by Tianjin Municipal Education Commission in the year of graduation. The number of students who have passed the examination has remained at the forefront of the city for many years, a total of 461 students were admitted in 2019.
