The School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and Automation was founded in 1983 and is one of the earliest departments established after the establishment of Tianjin Vocational Institute. There are 6 specialties in the school: Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation (including three professional directions of CNC Machining, CNC Maintenance, and Additive Manufacturing), Electrical Automation Technology, Mold Design and Manufacturing, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Technology. Meanwhile, the school has jointly cultivated Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation undergraduate specialty with Tianjin University of Technology and Education. At present, there are more than 1600 students in school.

The school currently has 56 faculty members, including 10 senior titles and 12 deputy senior titles; more than 20 part-time teachers with rich teaching experience and strong operating skills are hired; In recent years, professional teachers have completed more than 100 horizontal projects at the national, provincial and ministerial levels as well as enterprises; published plenty of textbooks and papers as a first author. The teachers have won the first prize of National Teaching Achievement Award and two Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Award.

The school has a complete experimental and practical training conditions. The total value of instruments and equipment is more than 46 million yuan, the total area of the training rooms is more than 8,000 square meters, which can well cooperate to complete the teaching and training tasks of various majors. The school can undertake training and professional skill appraisal of electrician, computer-aided design, CNC installation and maintenance, refrigeration technical maintenance workers, mold fitter, etc.

Over the past 30 years, students have made great achievements in various professional competitions. Recently, the employment rate of graduates has been maintained at over 98%. Our cooperative enterprises cover many of the world's top 500 enterprises, domestic top 500 enterprises as well as small, medium and micro enterprises in the equipment manufacturing industry. The employment quality is high, and students trained by orders account for more than 50%, which is well received by peers and employers.
